Do you spend time in the day performing facial skincare but neglect your body? It’s no surprise as most of us do!!
While face-focused skincare continues to grow at an incredible rate, bath and body products are on the rise as consumers and brands make a connection between overall wellness and skin health.
Finding the perfect skincare routine for your face is a major factor for all of us but what about the body? Of course it makes perfect sense why we all focus on the face as our priority – body is a must too! Just as you should use a facial cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturiser (and more) on your face, you should also use skin care products on the skin below your neck.
If you’re used to washing with a standard shower gel with the occasional body moisturiser after, then it’s officially time to create a skin care routine for your body. I have broken down a basic body care routine into four simple steps, sharing everything you need to know plus a few of my favourite body products!!
No matter what part of your body you’re dealing with, the best way to kick things off is by getting completely clean. For your body, that means using a cleanser meant specifically for washing your body. Look for a gentle body wash that won’t irritate or dry out your skin. Lather up with help from a loofah, wash cloth, or just your hands, then be sure to rinse off before moving on.
SMOOTH SMOOTH SKIN
The skin on your body is better suited to exfoliation. Because your body is typically tougher than your face, you don’t have to be quite as wary about scrubbing too much – but please still be gentle!
Twice a week add in a body exfoliation (I love a sugar/salt scrub onto dry skin before jumping into the shower) into your shower routine and gently massaging the scrub onto your skin. Focus on your elbows, knees, and heels, which are more likely to have rough patches that need extra exfoliation.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE
While your skin is still wet from your shower, it’s the perfect time to hydrate your skin. Smooth a hydrating cream or lotion over your body from your neck to your toes letting it absorb before putting your clothes on. For an added hydration I love to add in an oil. Either mix in with your moisturiser or underneath.
FAKE SUN-KISSED SKIN
I love having that gorgeous sun-kissed skin but not a fan of being out in the sun (and I live in the UK hot days are rare!!) Of course I love self – tanner. I absolutely love the Tan-Luxe Hydra-Mousse in Medium/Dark which has a clear guide colour which develops into the most gorgeous glow over time. Smooth it on evenly once a week, being sure to use sparingly around joints, to achieve an even, streak-free tan. During the summer months or if I need a mid week pick me up I love to use the St Tropez Gradual Tan just to keep the sun-kissed look.
For me there is something very spa like/pamper feel with having a good weekly body care routine and I can really see why body products are on the rise, as for me I love the connection between overall wellness and skin health.
